"my body shape has changed, I do actually have a pretty strong core now (it works!) and my flexibility is improving. It is the first regular exercise I have done that I always look forward to"
What brought you to Pilates and the studio?
I was having chemo after surgery for breast cancer and needed to get out of the house and start moving again.
How long have you been doing Pilates for?
Probably four and a half years. The studio had only just opened
What has been the biggest change for you since you started?
Well a couple of things really my body shape has changed, I do actually have a pretty strong core now (it works!)and my flexibility is improving. It is the first regular exercise I have done that I always look forward to. I even try to go to classes when away on holidays.
What would you say to people wanting to get started?
Just do it! Pilates has set exercises but they can be adapted to challenge a high performance athlete or someone who hasn’t exercised for years and is recovering from an illness or injury. It has a strong ‘mind body’ connection so if nothing else you come away with a clear head.
Tell us your favourite exercise, why?
At the moment one of my favourites is short spine massage on the reformer.I like it because it helps me stretch out my lower back but also because the exercise itself has a nice flow. There are lots of other exercises I like, some of the Cadillac and Tower exercises are just fun to do!
Tell us your least favourite exercise, why?
Swimming!!!! Where do I start? It looks super easy but incorporates all the things I find difficult. On the plus side, it is easy for me to notice even small improvements with this one.
How often do you come and what kind of sessions do you do?
Usually twice a week for group classes but sometimes a duo or a private as well if I have some spare time or really want to work on something in particular.
Do you have a favourite motivational saying?
Yes, ‘Just be quiet ( or less polite version) and do it!’
